Tonsils be Gone!

Well, just as I thought, MM will be having her tonsils removed along with adenoids & possible tubes put back in her ears. I am not too worried about the surgery. We will have to stay over night though, possibly two nights they said. That will be rough. Surgery, then her not in her own environment!

I LOVED the new doc, btw! He had actually read her chart before he came in. I was all ready to plead my case. None of that needed. He said they would probably have to come out, looked in her throat for a half second, said "Oh yeah, they need to come out". He then said most kids go home, but she will have to stay due to her ASD & CP. He is most concerned cause she can't tell you if she is hurting or something is wrong. Also, he wants her to have IV antibiotics after due to her auto immune issues. WOW. Okay. Then he scheduled it for Feb 19. That is before I could even GET IN with the ENT we used in the past. WOWEE-WOW!

Now, the bad news is my surgery is the week before on the 11th. We are going to have a super hectic mid February. Also, we will be funding two different ENTs family vacations this year! LOL!

I am still planning on giving the IEP update, but it will take a lot of time to type. I need to get housework done this morning.

I know we probably live nowhere near each other, but if you need anything at all, let me know. I remember surgery days and how rough they are. I'll be happy to hlep in any way I can!

Glad to hear that you were able to find a doctor that actually knows what he's talking about and you didn't have to fight to get anything done.

Does MM use any type of social stories? You might want to make one about going to the hospital and having surgery and staying over night there. If you aren't sure what to do with it, let me know and I can help you create one very easily. It's the least I can do!

Ooooo... social story! Great idea! I will probably take you up on the offer.
Weird thing here, the Children's Hospital is coming this week to the school to talk about what happens when you go to the hospital. I hope that will help her too.

You could ask them to let you know what types of things they cover. Then put those things into the social story as well. If you get it before they come and talk to the class, you can always do a preteach on it...I am all about the preteaching!! Having them come to the school and doing the social story is great carry over and consistency for her. I would be willing to bet with these 2 strategies in place, you will see far less behavior than you would were she to go in there "cold." Please let me know what you would like for me to do to help!! I love nothing more than doing modifications and creating things for kids, it's really the best part of my job.

I am glad you like the new doc, that can make a huge difference. Yes, you have a lot coming up, but think how much easier March will feel. :)
